Roxburghe Debt Collectors - Unfair Card Charge

Hi All,
I got a parking fine for overstaying my welcome at St Mark's Hospital in Harrow, London, which I ignored until I got a letter from Roxburghe. They state that they'll chase me for it, and I believe them because this is a debt management company so I agreed to pay. However, when you do pay - right at the very end of the payment process they do a dirty on you and charge an additional amount , in my case £3.76) to pay by card! Nowhere on their web site nor in their letter do they state that such a charge will be payable. Surely this is illegal/ or grossly unfair to say the least? What do you suggest I do?

You have just paid a scam.
Beware, they WILL come back for more money.
You have my utmost sympathy, but you have just been had my dear.
It was a scam that impersonates authority, none of it was real.
It is a borderline legal scam that works on the principal that you can legally INVOICE anyone for anything as an "invitation" and it is up to that person to "accept" that invitation and pay.
As they now have your card details, they will just take anything else they feel they were owed such as late payment charges.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

You haven't gone and actually (I can hardly type this) PAID it have you???:mad:
It really is easy to ignore this scam, if you have not just been daft enough to pay them (sorry but - honestly - that would be just stoopid).
If you haven't paid, then here you go, easy answer:
1. Read the sticky thread, 'PPC letters & threats'. If unsure how to see the forum index (stickies at the top) see my signature.
2. Check out which standard letter templates will come next. Guess what, Roxburghe and Graham White letters are there. Guess what - they mean NOTHING and they do not 'chase you'! They certainly won't catch you just by sending more letters!
3. Watch the Watchdog clip on the same sticky thread.
4. Ignore the scammers and tell your friends/family about this con.
If you have actually (OMG I still don't want to type this!) paid then please can I have some money too, I will chase you if you don't pay...PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

"They state that they'll chase me for it, and I believe them because this is a debt management company"
You know that the rights of a debt management/debt collector are limited to asking you to pay the money and if you don't, then asking you nicely again. Unless they take you to court and win, that's about all they can do.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
Stevey, you could call yourself a debt-management company, they have absolutely no special rights or powers and Roxburghe in particular you can safely ignore. If you don't pay them and ignore them, all they will do is stamp their feet and scream and scream until they're sick... or until they stop writing you letters. The only time they have ever been near a courtroom is when they got sued for harassment.
I'm sorry to be blunt, as like too many people you weren't aware of this scam, but when they hook someone who is actually naive enough to pay their unlawful demands they WILL milk it for all it is worth.
Never mind complaining about £3.76 I would be crying over the main payment you made which you had no need to pay.
If you are lucky and haven't paid- then forget the whole thing as they do NOTHING if you don't pay.
If you have, oh well, learn from it:
1. Never pay them or any other parking company / debt collector another penny;
2. Tell all of your friends that its a scam and NO WAY should they fall for it like you did.... then tell them to tell all their friends.. and so on, only thus can we put these crooks out of business.0 -
they must offer a free payment method. if they fail to do so they are braking some rule or another. but has others have said you have just been conned. have you recieved a receipt for the payment. i wonder is this service vatable.0

Inform your bank that you have had a run-in with scammers. They will likely cancel your card straight away, so there is little chance of them taking more.0
