Can i claim back home insurance?

Hi I'm new here, sorry if i posted this in the wrong place!
When i first got my mortgage from natwest i was told i also had to have home/building insurance. As i live in a flat this insurance was already covered by the grounds maintenance company which i pay monthly. The maintenance company told me Natwest should of known not to give me building insurance because they do not cover flats and told me this happened to someone else in the same building and they managed to claim it back. Anyway i cancelled the Natwest insurance 2 years ago and stupidly haven't tried to reclaim it till now. Does anybody know how i would go about this? thanks!

Was the home insurance buildings insurance or contents insurance (or both)?

In which case you make a complaint to the bank saying basically what you have here. You dont need to write much. Just enough so they understand what your complaint is.
