you cannot do a purge of brake fluid for £30 are you serious

a lot of garages use the machine with the lights which is a multimeter under its skin

talk sense dont talk rubbish keep to selling flowers pal

I'm a fully qualified time served mechanic, not some illiterate halfwit who can't even use capital letters properly.

Yes you can change brake fluid for £30. Takes 10 minutes and costs a garage under £10 in materials.

And as to the box with the lights...thats used to rip off clueless people like you.

Thanks Notmyrealname - I was beginning to think that I was paying the Ford dealer £40 to laugh at me and put their feet up instead of changing my brake fluid.
  • Thank you all for your helpful comments - the garage has now phoned and asked for the payment of £220.00. The person who phoned earlier was a different person to the person who told me my car had failed it's MOT. I disputed the bill as the service was £175, the brake fluid was £45-10% as a gold card holder (£41.50) and I had given them a £20 money off voucher so the £220 changed to £196.50. I then asked about the failed MOT certificate and he said that it had not failed at all and the fact that I said I had been told it was a failure was a misunderstanding.
I cannot dispute this but apparently on the service report the brake fluid was ticked red so I do believe that there was some contamination which they sorted out.
    Thanks all.

    Ann:)

Cooling systemEvery 10 years - Drain, flush and refill with Super Plus(LTS 24 122 4)

    Auxiliary drive beltsEvery 125 000 miles/10 years - Renew (LTS 21 567 5)

Visual body & paint checkEvery 12 or 24 months depending on vehicle type and build year/registration date. Carry out during operations marked (+) above - see detailed Check Sheet - if applicable (LTS 54 555 1 +)
  • You been lied to. I wouldn't take too kindly to a garage phoning me up saying my car has failed the MOT but will pass if I pay £45 for a brake fluid change.

I never agree to work like this over the phone. I just say fine, I'll come and collect the car.
  • A lot of cars proberly havent had there break fluid changed for over 10 years or even 20 without any problems but lot dealers specify in services 2 years or certain amount of mileage as yours is low mileage. To be honest if you go to a MOT centre that does repairs most will fail your car as this is where they make most money on repairs best bet is go to a MOT centre that does no repairs if you have one in your area and get work done.

It does sound like the 175 Service and free MOT = 175 pounds and lets find some work on the car becasue nothing is for free.

45 pounds is about the cost of an MOT at a centre that does no repair work so have you been ripped off maybe no have you been msiled the MOT was FREE yes.

Seems to be a sort of result. Good to know they still tried it on with you though!

What service did you pay for? Should they even have been checkign the brake fluid that's what I'd like to know. As said, some specify some don't.

As long as its been done it doesn't sound like you have been conned, at least in price terms.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

No manufacturer specifies brake fluid change on mileage. They specify it on time as water is absorbed over time, not how many times you press the brake pedal. 2 years is the accepted industry standard.

Rubbish. I've always taken cars to MOT stations that do repairs. It is very rare I've had a car fail and if it has failed, the reason has been valid.

What utter poppycock. If they'd have booked the brake fluid change they'd have been billed the £45. They have paid no more than they would have done having a service, a brake fluid change and a free MOT.

Seriously? I'd be damned annoyed if they didn't. At the very least they should be checking the level.

There seems to be a whole lot of stupid in this thread.
