BOGOF deals - Watch it at Carrefour!

Just popped over to France and Belgium yesterday for smokes, groceries and wine and spotted a nice little questionable tactic at the Carrefour supermarket at Calais/Mivoix. They are offering a 2 for 1 deal on certain wines, but this is not recognised at the checkout - everything is charged in full. You have to go to the Customer Services desk to claim a refund on the extra items, but this information isn't posted or marked anywhere - and both our eyesight and our French are pretty good.

Luckily my wife and I are in the habit of checking our till receipts every time, but I suspect that Carrefour are knowingly relying on not everyone doing this and in consequence inadvertently paying the full price for each notionally "free" second item. Bit naughty, that.

I think some offers are activated by their equivalent of a Tesco Clubcard.

You can generally pick one up without bothering to register it in-store.

This has happened to us also, in the Super U, and we had to claim at customer services. Wasn't easy because I didn't completely know how to explain it in the limited french I had, and the CS assistant's English was pretty much nonexistent too! However, we got by and I got my refund!
