I also wish there were more half price deals. I would not want to drag 8 tins of food home on the bus on top of my weekly shop

I think I read somehwere that BOGOFs are the companies' way of protecting their price point while increasing sales volumes. They do this to gain "market share" or something. It doesn't have the same negative impact of reducing to say, 50% and then increasing back to the usual price per unit of their product.

What's to stop you to share BOGOFs with a friend or relative? I see it all the time at work, where usually a customer and an elderly parent shop together and share out offers.

What gets me at work when produce is on BOGOF, customers presume you have to buy the same two items - NO! Usually, there are about 6 different produce on BOGOF and you can mix and match. So you can have a pineapple and a bag of Braeburns.

I live alone and I have tins and cereal in my landing cupboards. My mum has two vegetable trolleys in the garage full of tins. A friend even has something like this for storing tins under the bed.

Its not discrimination if it was they wouldn't allow you to buy the products in the first place whilst allowing others too that's discrimination. Its a free market and if you dont like what shops do simple dont shop there, there are plenty of other shops that have offers on 360+ days a year whilst not bulking the availability of how much you must pay. Tins can easily be stored in boxes in cupboards, or even under the bed. I dont have a large kitchen but doenst stop me taking advantage of any good deals. I have around 40 tins of beans some I do give away to family plus lost of other offers, granted I have a garage but I use to use a shed years ago

Granted its can be annoying for perishable goods like yoghurt and stuff but places like aldi have offers every day, the large supermarket chains have a merry go around with offers where it can be cheap one week and not the next yet other supermarket might have that cheap that week

Where is this, please? I am forever being caught out because items are not mix & match and I thought they were!
  • Thank you for your thoughts everyone. Unfortunately my nearest shop is Sainsburys - one of the worst culprits for BOGOFs, twofers and even threefers. I will make use of them where I can but I would much prefer a price per item and choose how many I would like to buy without feeling pressurised by the deals - I don't particularly wish to store my groceries under the bed or in the shed! I am not going to fall for this any more especially with short life items. We do have an Aldi and an Asda in the town so I will make an effort to shop at these more often. :)
  • asda don't do a great deal of bogofs but they do other things like £1.38 for one bottle of golden syrup but 2 for a £1? These tend to run for about a week. This is a current pancake day offer. Previously they did £1.08 for 1 and 2 for £1 on batchelors instant soup and £1 for 1 packet of hobnobs and £1 for 2 with adverts in different places.

  • in sainsburies they usually have a big sign that says which 4 are on offer.

You have to make sure they're the same offer, as there might be multiple BOGOFs running in the same section which can get confusing. There doesn't seem to be much on BOGOF this week (funnily enough given this thread) to give a specific example, but sometimes they'll have say fruit on one BOGOF and salad veg on another. You could get two of any fruit on the offer or two of any salad, but not one fruit and one salad. As someone posted above, it should be on the label which products are included. Although sometimes it's just labelled "selected items" which is annoying.

I buy BOGOFs only if it's the cheapest unit cost and I'll use the second item within a reasonable time frame. If not, I just buy something else. Tins of beans are ones that particularly annoy me as well as I only use a small tin of baked beans a few times a year. These never seem to go on offer, even though the family packs do all the time.

I noticed Mr T have started doing this style of offer as well - Fox biscuits were £1.09 or 2 for £1 last week.
  • Are we actually complaining about free food now? Hahahah

If you don't want it, don't buy it. Yes, it's actually that simple!
