Incorrect name submitted on logbook
I'm hoping someone can advise me on a small issue that we have, it may seem irrelevant to most people, but I dont want it to invalidate my insurance or have a worse impact.
2 days ago my Fiancee and I purchased a nearly new used car from a local dealership. Throughout the process the salesman explained what he was doing and everything was fine, that is until it came to the logbook.
We were part-exchanging our old car which was registered in my fiancee's name, however due to previous financial difficulties that my fiancee went through, we wanted to register the new car in my name. However, having paid the money and waited a couple of days for the car to be prepared, when we went to pick the car up, we found out that the salesman had sent the logbook off with the registered keeper being my fiancee.
On my insurance policy I am named as the registered keeper, I am also the one that has purchased the car (not that that is an issue) and we dont want it in my fiancees name in case her previous financial troubles come back to bite her.
To cut a long story short, is there a way that I can get the DVLA to amend the name on the logbook to myself, without showing my fiancee as a registered owner, as she has never owned this car. I am also concerned when people look at how many previous owners the car has had.
If someone could give me some advice I would be very grateful, as I cannot find anything on this on the DVLA website.
Thanks

Some insurers insist on the car being owned, registered in the owners name.
As yours say are you the registered keeper you said yes but your not, Could be an issue if you
made a claim.
Send a letter explaining the selling garage have registered the car in the wrong name by mistake.
Send it off, Worse case is you add a new keeper to the V5. Worst case if you dont, Insurers cancel policy saying they only cover cars owned and registered and insured in the same name.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
no advice, just to empathise.
twice dealers have put my oh as
registered keeper of my car(s)- even after explictly being warned not to during the purchase process.
they offered to send in a correction but said they cannot influence how that looks
as 'how many previous owners' even though it was their mistake0 -
Write to the DVLA pointing out that the dealer registered the car in the wrong name but right address, (enclosing the V5 document) and ask them to change it. I had the same problem once and they did it straight away, and without adding an extra keeper on the total."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

But you have to sign before it is sent off. Didn't you check that all details were correct before signing? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
