Why do things get in the way of being Debt Free?

I have been making amazing progress, I feel, with my debts after having my LBM in September / October 2011.

My debt is down to £780 from £2,250(round up).

However I am feeling rather annoyed that things keep cropping up!

I now have £250 University Fee's to pay before I can pay my £30 examination fee's, which need to be paid by April. I also need to go to the dentist as I have something wrong with my gums, and fear it's going to be a very expensive trip.

I have a F&F on my Wonga / Gothia account of £238.21 to pay on the 25th this month. I'm just annoyed that my debts are going to take possibly another 2 months extra to pay off, because of these extra flipping things!!!!!! :(

Know that feeling, just got told my tax code is changing so I loose £150 a month, rebudget ahoy
  • Totally agree... while I did get a PPI repayment last month, I've been off work for 2 months so my next few wages are going to be shockingly bad, and that's if I go back to work any time soon. No spare money to repay debts with... in fact, I need to find money from somewhere just to manage the min outgoings. I feel I will have no choice but to use a cc to survive.

  • Hi,
It looks like you've done really well so far and are headed in the right direction. Whilst this might be a frustratingbsetback for you, keep remembering the progress so far. Some months do end up being more difficult than others. :)
    not smelly, not a cat.
  • I know exactly where you are coming from and its totally frustrating. But for me it has been a little blessing in disguise cos it has highlighted the importance of having an emergency fund built into my budget. So while totally annoying it helped me.

  • I know how your feeling, we have had one thing go wrong after another continually with cars/general house repairs etc, plus the threat of redundancy/slashed hours at my 2nd job which I use to pay extra off my debts. So diheartening.

Keep at it, you've done really well so far, hope the dentist isnt too expensive (or painful) eeek! xxx

Kelly you have already paid £780 off that's a huge achievement. Don't forget that. You're changing a lifestyle and life has this habit of throwing problems in your way.

I was that blind to my debts that when my grand dad died I couldn't afford to seem him. You will get there. Life is just silly. I have to admit I panic at how well I have done but I know there is going to a problem because I know it can't be this easy. So still waiting for the big trauma to come!

Good luck Hun you will get there, karma comes back to those who deserve it good or bad
  • I have £780 left to pay. Think I've paid about £1,800? And had planned on paying it off by April.
I have about £2.6k in my Cash ISA but that's my student loan money. I take out £620 a month to live on.

I could easily pay my fee's and debts off right now - but it'd mean that I'd have NO money for August and September, and that I'd need to pay in from my wages each month. I detest playing 'catch up' with my money. But may be my only option!
