Fund for Ross Goodall- Who's in+how do we start?

Hi,
I have just read the story of Ross Goodall (Link at the end of this post) and it has hit a nerve.
I have a colleague at work who constantly moans about 'doleys' and 'benefit cheats' and it gets me down. His generalisation is echoed by lots of people I know and it is very unfair.
Now I don't want any negative comments on this thread, let me make that clear right now. If you don't agree then please, please, just do not post.
I would like to start/contribute to a fund for Ross Goodall. If you read his story then you'll understand. Yes I know the argument about 'If you help person X then what about person Y'. To be blunt, I don't care, I can't heal the world but I just think this fella deserves a break.
Please can someone tell me where I can start and what I can do.
From the off- I want to contribute £10. It's nothing much but it is what it is: a start.
Anyone else?

Agree, it is a shame when the large minority of people give a bad name to a whole group. My brother and sister in law choose not to work as they're better off on benefits compared to what work they could get and find that it gets in the way of their lifestyle, and they have things like nice clothes, plasma tvs, latest phones fags and booze, SIL even has a beautiful little cottage in our derbyshire village where she lives alone. Does make me feel like a bit of a mug having gone to uni and then straight to full time work.
Probably get slapped for saying this, but he's the sort of person who should be playing the system, you don't get rewarded for honesty in this life.0 -

What are you going to do with this fund? Pay for a few pints down the pub? Do his shopping for him?
There are probably thousands of people in similar predicaments with ill health and reduced circumstances, and I know you've already mentioned that fact, but I don't see anything that makes this chap special, sorry.0 -
Whilst it is a really refreshing and an eye-opener to hear about someone who is having to rely upon benefits due to genuine circumstances beyond their control I really don't see the point of starting a collection. I manage on approximately 11K a year without housing benefits and/or council tax assistance. I understand from the article that Ross and his family do too. Its not easy but it can be done.0

theres countless others who havent had the pleasure of putting their story in the papers and live on less than mr goodal wouldnt it be nice to help them all rather than one personReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

He needs the 'system' to help him, not a whipround from some internet forum. Where does it end? We all reach into our own pockets to help everyone who's being let down by the government? That would really please Smug Cameron wouldn't it? Who needs a welfare state when you can just get everyone on MSE to bung in a tenner. Big society innit :rotfl:"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Wouldn't you be better off raising money for a charity so the money can be used to help many?0

You can't post on a public internet forum and say you don't want negative replies.
1) If you really must do something for Ross then set up a Justgiving site and see if you can get people to donate that way. Or you could do an event and see who will sponsor you.
I won't be contributing. Yes I feel sorry for him but there are a lot of people closer to home who deserve my money equally as much as he does.
Fund research and you help more people. I'm a utilitarian at heart.0
