ppi claim- no account numbers

after going from 50000 of debt i have steadily paid things off over the past 7 years (no holidays, thoughtful pressies and bloody hard work!)
closed down any credit cards or catalogues as soon as i paid them off so now i have no account numbers (shredded all my paperwork in a cleansing effort!)
i keep hearing radio ads about how money has been set aside for ppi reclaims but i dont have the time, info and im not sure which credit companies did rip me off
i have read all the posts on how i should go thru the f.o.s. and use the s.a.r. to reclaim myself but as im not sure i'd even get anything i am happy to let a company do all the work
can anyone let me know if there is an honest ppi reclaim company out there - am happy to let them take 20% as its money i would never have seen anyway
interested to hear peoples thoughts

    Hi madwifey,
DON'T use a claims company, it's easier to do it yourself and quicker. You say you have no account numbers, if that's the case then a claims company won't be able to help unless you get them. If you are going to get them why pass them onto a claims company to simply post off a form for you, because that is all they do. You say you are willing to let them have 20% of any redress MAKE THAT 25-50% when you add the vat (for posting a letter)
You say you are gradually paying off your debt, that's admirable :T but if you haven't managed to do that yet going to a claims company could be disastrous as any redress you may get can all be gobbled up to pay off that debt and you will still owe the claims company their wad. You could end up out of pocket dispite being successful
All you need to do is SAR the banks in question to get all the information they hold on you, it costs £10 per SAR and they have 40 days to comply. As soon as you get the account numbers you can get the ball rolling yourself with the help of this forum.
If you feel you were mis sold PPI do a SAR to the bank ;)

  • If you have no account numbers, you will be totally reliant on the lender still holding your details in an alphabetical filing system - which they may, or may not, do.

If they do not then really you are sunk because you will not be able to show that you even had PPI, let alone that it was missold.

Remember, a Data Subject Access Request only has to provide information in a "relevant filing system" which boils down to what a reasonably competent temp could find with the information you provide. Thus if it is filed in alphabetical order, they can track your documents down.

If it is only filed by account number they can track your details down but only if you can provide the account number - which you can't.

With some companies I did SAR, but you can also try tracking down account numbers by checking old statements, or even call into the local branch who may still hold the information.

So if your still with the same bank where you paid the repayments too, and bank online, you can try checking that way too, the account numbers of loan repayments are normally shown next to it with the name of the loan company as well.

And of course as dilus says is another option, good luck.

You could even do a free credit check, it might show up accounts but only give you the last 4 digits, this is sometimes enough ;)
