You need a minimum of 6 inches you will also need to lay a plastic membrane under your concrete to stop the water being pulled into the ground hence to stop it drying out to quick and cracking hope this helps:j :T0

There is a good picture of how the shuttering should be assembled here-

You have to scroll a fair way down the page, but then it is clearly visible!0 -
WOW! Thats how to build a garage, my garage consists of the same panels, I only hope it turns out as good as the one shown on ultimate handyman site, next thing will be how to construct a roof!
Just wondering do I have to dig down 6 inches or can I construct a frame to put concrete into? Like in the handyman link?0 -
the last garage shown was the same as my previous garage. bought SH for 200 quid. easy to erect.
btw. theres a company near me that advertises a concrete sectional garage, erected (on your own base), for 999 quid. think thats pretty good?Get some gorm.0 -
You may be better off digging down 6 inches, if you don't you will need to make a ramp up to the garage.
It also depends on how firm the ground is!0 -
I bought the garage for £50 SH it wasn't assembled but its a big size! BARGAIN!!!! I guess its gonna have to be digging down 6 inches as the ground is pretty soft.
Weekend warrior was the garage on the link you sent yours??0 -

No, it was someone called millemg on the UHM forum, I remembered seeing it and I was impressed by it and when you said you were doing one I thought you might like to see it.
I did a concrete base about 7 years ago, I dug down about a foot and used blockboard for the shuttering and some 3*2 timber. The bsae that I did was about 11 feet by 18 feet. The one in the picture is a monster!
I love seeing before and after pics like that0
