  • Buying a static carvan is a nightmare, unless you stay at the site for 30 years it is like putting money down a drain, sadly we get caught up in the moment and don't think the whole thing through to conclusion.

Legislation on caravan parks and holiday parks is well overdue, even the codes of practice some of them were supposed to adhere to fell by the wayside.

My take on this is and I've just checked my black horse agreement for a "tourer" this 4.5 appears to be a standard clause which applies to sited statics/chalets/lodges etc. You do need their persmission to move it, but the fact that they are stating it is because they have some third party arrangement with the owner I'm not sure what the legal situation on this is.

The reality is that even if you were able to move it, the site has the right to charge you disconnection charges which they can basically charge what they like it was a minimum of a £1000 at the site we were on and that was going back 4 years. Then there is the cost of transporting it and finally the new site is also likely to charge a connection fee. I am amazed you have found a site that is willing to accept a van from elsewhere on, they don't normally. Probably means they are better than most.

I would never buy a static again unless I owned the land it was going on!! You are completely at the mercy of the site owner, its all very wrong but thats the way it is. I saw him treat people that had been on his site for 30+ years and say their husband passed away he treated then like a piece of dirt on his shoe and gave them a pittance for their vans, well under market value, no private sales were allowed either even with a commission to him. Basically he was not a nice man and that is why we left the site, despite it being a 5* star site and imaculate.
The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.
  • Sorry meant to say the "owners direct" option might be worth considering? Thats if the site you are on will let you rent it out? (the site we were on didnt) it might at least help with costs in the short term?

Even the big chain run ones seemed slightly gypo'ish when we looked a few years back, add to that the slimy (lying) salesman and the "site owner" and we ran for the hills and went to Spain instead.
