Hi,
This is shortened version of what has happened to us;
In August 2009 we used our touring caravan as a deposit to buy a static caravan on a caravan site.
To finance the remaining costs we took out an agreement with black horse.
We have enjoyed the static caravan and the site it is on for three seasons now.
Each year the site has added extra costs and raised the annual site fees.
Summer 2011 Nigel, my husband was made redundant from his job and so we looked to tighten our belts and cancelled any luxuries we did not need.
As we were tied into the payments to black horse we realised that the best thing would be to cut down the associated costs of having a caravan.
We decided that we should move the caravan to a site that was cheaper on site fees annually and would be closer to home to save on petrol costs.
We found a site and started to pack up our caravan in order that we could move it before the site fees for 2012 would be due.
We contacted black horse to let them know what we were doing not thinking there would be any problem, after all we had never missed a single payment and this would allow us to continue to pay even though it would be a struggle.
Black horse have said that we cannot move our caravan until October 2012 and told us to look at item 4.5 in our contract.
This item says that we cannot re site sell our caravan unless we get permission from them and that this would be at their discretion.
We asked why they would not give permission.
We have been told that Black horse have an agreement with this particular site that guarantees a buy back sum for the first three years should we default on our payments and the three years doesnt run out until October 2012.
We were never told about this agreement by either Black horse or the caravan site.
In effect, the site could raise their site fees by 100% at any time and we would still have had to pay.
We are not in a position to afford the high site fees now that my husband has lost his job.
These site fees are due on the 1st March 2012.
It is looking more and more that we may have to simply walk away from our beloved caravan having lost everything that we have paid so far, that is the whole deposit and three years worth of finance payments, this is in excess of £20,000.
The finance company get to keep all of the payments we have made so far and the caravan site get to resell the caravan, so both companies win and we lose everything.
Please, please look into this for us.

Unfortunately for you, the only relevant points are that you signed an agreement without going through the terms and conditions you were agreeing to.
It is a common occurrence seen on here and sorry to say it looks like an expensive lesson for you.0 -
I think this is almost the norm now with caravan sites ............ 'You can only buy off us, and you can only sell to us'
They have all the owners almost with a rope around their necks. If they want to sell, there's only one buyer and he sets the price, and if you're buying you can't shop around and then bring the van onto the site. The reason that's given is this gives them more control so to have better or newer caravans on the site which benefits everyone by keeping the place nice.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Are there any rules about you letting out the van? If so could you do that this spring and summer to cover your costs obviously not using it yourselves. Could this tie you over until Oct. Static vans can rent for £400 to £600 a week in med/high season.
I always book my caravan, cabin etc through a website called Owners Direct.
Don't let them win, fight them every way. Remember your dream. Good Luck to you both.0 -
...and therein lies your problem. It's undoubtedly in the T&Cs you signed.yorkie01262 wrote: »We were never told about this agreement by either Black horse or the caravan site.
You can't blame Black Horse, they're just the financiers - your beef is with the site owners but that said, you did sign.
You've been sold a dud, but there might be some caravanners on MSE who will come to your rescue with a fight back strategy.0 -
In a nutshell, you had it all the time.yorkie01262 wrote: »

I do sympathise but I am yet to see any kind of holiday scheme which is genuinely value for money.
I suppose the good news is that you are in your last year and not been in this position in year one.0 -
