In response to the title of this thread, I agree. All the information you need can be found on the internet to build your investment portfolio.

And I'm sure all the information is available on the internet for me to build a house or a sports car. But I still couldn't do it.

And I'm sure all the information is available on the internet for me to back the winner of the Grand National. Trouble is, every other runner and rider has an army of advocates as well.

It tends to be only after we learn the result of anything that we reach for the hindsight goggles and find all the evidence we should have picked out beforehand.

I'm talking about fund history. I wouldn't buy a fund with a short history. It doesn't matter what the manager's pedigree is because the fund remit may be different to that in which they made their name. Just look to Anthony Bolton and his China Special Situations fund.

Besides, if I buy Fund A with a particular fund manager - I wouldn't want them to just 'split' the fund and allocate a new manager. I'd move my money away.

Sounds like they're lazy more like.

before you start defending the fund management industry should you not make it clear you work as an IFA (or something similar)?

you say in a different thread "Who charges 3%? I've never placed a client into an investment with a TER of 3% even including my fees"

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3785035

Soooo we've got TH1878 and at least 5 other IFAs posting on this thread (meeper, dunstonh, qpop, helpwherican and aegis). There are other posters who seem either to lack the ability to understand simple argument or are closet IFAs.

Does anyone else think the pro IFA bias on a consumer site is a little extreme?

No because one of the main IFAs on this site is one of the most helpful people here, with a lot of posts (and thanks) to their name. He doesn't go around saying "See an IFA, here are my details".

On the otherside, there are people such as yourselves, with posts only containing a small percentage of helpful posts compared to the high number of argumentative posts.

I also don't see how a forum having 5 IFAs makes it pro bias in favour of IFAs. For goodness sake, this forum has millions of members.

Maybe if you put your "knowledge" to better use, such as helping others, then people might take you more seriously. Gadget for example, although I don't agree with everything he says, I do respect him because he does contribute to this forum more than just the debate threads.

Ohh hi Lokolo, how is the job? you were saying you were a trainee fund manager?

how many threads have you started from scratch that have had a big following? you might not like what i write, however a lot of people seem to want to write on my threads.

to show i'm a helpfull guy i'll let you ask me anything you want about derivatives or shooting and i'll see what i can do. on you go, fire your questions away.

so there are at least 7 posters on this thread that have a financial incentive for punters handing over their money to fund managers......

No I am a Software Developer.

And no I won't ask you a question because I don't need to ask you a question. There's a difference between replying to a question and contributing something useful to this forum. So why don't you start doing more of the latter?

People thank you because people agree with your views, not because you are being helpful.

    yes, they certainly do.

obviously the IFAs here don't like me posting. but the site isn't called "IFAsaremagicand deliverawesomereturns.com"... it's really a site for consumers.....

i'm sure you said you were a fund manager in another post....

Of course not. But IFAs don't promise amazing returns.

The fact is, if people are willing to DIY then the IFAs will still respond to their questions. Indeed, when I first joined and had many many questions, a lot of them were answered by Dunstonh. But people do come on here, saying "I want to invest" but don't want to learn, so their real main option is to go and see an IFA.

And no, but I may have said I work in the fund management industry. I am just in the IT department.

I can guess the names you think but I know you will be wrong.

You just dont get it do you. How many times has it been said that isnt what an IFA is for yet you keep on repeating it over and again. The IFAs (and all the others that agree with us) are frustrated at the misinformation you post and the repeating of things which are wrong time and again. You ignore what is said if it is inconvenient for your point of view. That's what gets on the nerves. No debate is possible with you as you dont listen and understand. You try to outshout others hoping the loudest voice will be heard and believed.
