    Is there a way I can if the address is registered under a DPS? I don't have a pin number or anything as I wasn't given one when I moved in.

    following on from post 13 - in which case you now write to the LL ( keeping a copy) Head the letter "Letter before Action". Refer to the property address, the tenancy dates, the amount of deposit paid, to whom it was paid and on which date.

    Briefly mention your previous attempts to get your deposit back ( dates, who spoken to etc) State that you left your room in the same condition as originally supplied to you , less fair wear and tear, if you did. What else you say depends on whether there was a jointly signed inventory from your tenancy start and whether you want to challenge the proposed deduction.

    Say that you understand that the LL has a legal obligation, under the Housing Act 2004 Ss213-215, to scheme register your tenancy deposit and to have provided you with the scheme's "prescribed information" Add that you have now checked with each of the 3 tenancy deposit schemes and found that they have no record of your deposit.

    Finish by asking them to return your tenancy deposit ( or its balance) to you within 7 working days, after which time you will proceed to the small claims court if necessary. Tell them that your claim will include a request for court costs.

  • Ah, I just remembered, I think I was on a joint tenancy. Does this change anything?
  • Ooh, I have just found it. It is registered after all, but for the full amount (all 3 tenants including myself). Will this make it easier/harder to get back? Sorry for all the questions, but I just want to make sure I can get my money!

    That will make it easier. You need to apply to the scheme holding the deposit for your portion.
