Provacy issue - bank

Hi,

I have just paid a cheque into my account which is a five figure sum.
Suddenly I get a phone call from my bank asking me to come in for a review so that they can advise me how to best invest this money.

I do my own investments so I am not interested.

Now my question is can I write to them telling them not to ring me in the future if / when I put largish sums in my account?

I don't trust their advice and I do not wish to be interrupted whilst at work and frankly I am annoyed at the big brother approach they take.
S...e service from them till a significant cheque gets paid in my account.

Is it within my rights to stop them from ringing me?

Thank you

You can try, but I don't think you'll get anywhere. They get commission for arranging appointments etc, so they're only doing their job.

When I got made redundant, I paid my cheque into the HSBC over the counter and I got questioned as to whether I wanted advice about investing the money (it was about 6k), but I just said I'd already made plans for the money and wasn't interested. They didn't follow it up with a phone call though.

Today I went into the Halifax and paid money into my kids' accounts and got asked if I wanted to come in for a review of their products etc, but I just said that everything is in joint names with DH, so I wanted to speak to him first before arranging anything.

As previous poster has pointed out, they are only doing their job by phoning you, just say 'no thanks, good bye'.
Doubt it will help but you can also ask them not to call you.
Or don't give them your work number if you don't want to get disturbed at work?

I use HSBC for my day to day current account needs, in 20+ years I have only once been offered a financial review, it was set up by the cashier. When I went to see their financial adviser, the rates on their savings products (at the time) were quite dire compared with what I could get elsewhere. As soon as the adviser would show me a product, I would show him where I could get a better return, a few times he even asked from where and how much.
When all else failed to hook me in, the adviser even tried the 'HSBC is a big safe bank where your money will be safe' approach, to which I replied 'the financial institutions I have my money with are covered by the FSCS'.
At the end he did get a bit frustrated, as to why I had wanted to see him. I pointed out it was his bank colleagues who had set up the meet (prob because of amounts going through my current account with them) and that my time is also valuable to me, the meeting soon ended.
Ive never had any other offers to see their financial advisers for any more reviews since that one and only occasion (he prob left a note on my file 'leave well alone!').
S...e service from them till a significant cheque gets paid in my account.

You can opt out of marketing.

    Just tell them.

    Simples.

Personally I'm fed up with people trying to sell me stuff I've given no indication of wanting, and pushing me to discuss things I don't want to discuss.

Recently it's been O2 - 4 phone calls over 6 days. I started out polite but can I get them to remove my name from their lists?

I too get offerred 'reviews' by the bank that I don't want.

My policy now is to do whatever I can to recipricate the hastle they give me. I'll make appointments I have no intention of keeping. I'll put them on hold indefinately on the phone. I'll ask them probing questions without answering theirs.

They drive me mad... so now I try to do the same.

Last time I wrote a check for 30K and deposited it into another acct of mine, I had no calls from the receiving bank begging me for an interview.

Just got a call from the outgoing bank as I don't tend to use checks and mainly use them for school dinners, the DC etc so they wanted to make sure it wasn't fraudulent (although I did say I'd paid it into another bank acct of my own so really..........)

Anyway, I would call them and tell them you don't want marketing calls. I am pretty sure they have to comply if you ask.

I've had one call over the years. I told them, in no uncertain terms, that I wasn't interested in going in for a 'review'. I haven't heard from them since.

Well I will keep you posted. I don't think this is the end of it as tomorrow I will be depositing the amount with C & G for their three year bond. I bet HBS ring me to check the validity of the the cheque once it goes through the system....

I dread to think what hassle lottery winners must get from these banks when they cash their big fat cheque.
