^^ mate that's just bad, I feel for you.

  • This fraud happened to me today...have read this thread and have just one question; yesterday my bank (halifax) offered to help me as a ' loyal customer' get my interest rates down (credit card and mortgage) and instead tried to get me to take out another loan. I declined their offer immediately yesterday and today found out wonga have removed close to 4000 from my account. I have never used wonga and am wondering if its purely a coincidence?? Did anyone else have dealings with their own bank in the runup to the wonga fraud? Thanks
  • I have had money taken from my account. I have never had any dealings with Wonga.
My daughter received a letter that she owed money from an outstanding loan with Wonga she has never had a loan. So it looks like someone has stolen her identity.
Even if she did owe them money -which she definitely does not - how can they take payment from my account???
I am very careful about shredding all paperwork & the debit card used to get money from my account has not been used for cash withdrawals, on-line shopping as I never use this card at all & have not for many years.
How do Wonga get the information?
I have told my bank & the police - who both say they have many complaints against Wonga.
I have written to the FSA but Wonga don't seem to be in the scheme so who can stop this????
  • Had this happen to me a few months back, though it was someone actually hacking my old Wonga account, changing the loan details and paying themselves, whilst leaving my debit card details on there for the repayment.
Received a text in the morning saying thank you for repaying your loan on time (first I'd heard of it), checked my account and ~£600 had been authorised out.
HSBC were good about it though and refunded the money as soon as it debited.

There is NO way for Wonga to get hold of your account details, unless someone gave them it. Maybe the complaints are all from people who have been victims of identity fraud and these people have used this is obtain PDLs? Not trying to say Wonga are the victims here, but they are not the ones to blame.
  • Hi, I've been in a situation with wonga. Never applied for a loan or anything but recieved a letter saying thank you for taking a loan. I've been a victim of ID FRAUD  It shows up on my credit report that I owe wonga
Speaking to wonga on the phone has got me no where, neither has writing them a letter of complaint.
Am I entitled to take my complaint further to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Wasn't too sure as its a loan company?

  • There seems to be a hell of a lot of these ID fraud cases with Wonga, do they not check that the bank account they pay the loan into is in the same name as the person who has applied for the loan?
