Argos -Laptop screen broken

Hi everyone
Just after a bit of advice if I may.....
I brought an acer aspire 8930g laptop for £600 from Argos in september 2009. 3 days ago the screen stopped working. I have looked around the net and diagnosed the problem (i think!)However its likely a repair will be very expensive (probably not worth it)My question is where is the best place to start regarding getting it fixed? Do i have any chance of getting Argos to fix it? I believe the sale of goods act covers this, but from reading other peoples issues it seems extremely ambigious. I feel 2 1/2 years is not really enough use for a £600 outlay. Do i have a case?
Thanks in advance for any help

What's the fault with the screen - are there any black lines / cracks visible, or does it look OK when off?0

Hi matty thanks for quick reply
When switched on the laptop screen is very faint, and is only visible under direct sunlight. The laptop itself is fine as it works when connected to my tv. from looking around the net it seems as if its the backlight which has gone (although I am no expert!)0 -
OP, have you read MSE's Consumer Rights article?
In there you will find that you may need to prove that the fault was there at the time of sale.
Once that is proved, then thr retailer must provide a remedy which could be either a repair, replacement or refund.
If a refund is decided upon, then it can be reduced to take account of the use you have had.
There is more to it than that, so have a read of that article first, then come back with your next question.0 -
Just in case you decide to repair it yourself the job is not hard to do, straight forward really.

This is only a example, think you would be able to purchase the inventor cheaper if you look around.0 -

Who invented the laptop?0
