Barclays PPI organised through online banking

Hi again, I have Barclays PPI on my joint current account overdraft and it costs me around £10 a month, I have had this for over 20 years, ove the years I have used online banking to increase my overdraft limit, I remember the last time I did this that when i clicked the box to opt out of PPI it then went to a page telling me that because the account already had PPI on it that I could not go ahead unless I took it out again, so because we needed the extra money fast I ticked the box for PPI and it went thought and the extra limit was applied. Ive never really thought about my ppi on this account as it was just something that has always been there. I actually stopped working about 12 months after having this cover and the only time i have worked I was self employed for about 2 years so really it doesnt even cover what we took it out for. Is it worth me trying to claim and what grounds do I have to say it was mis sold?

At last, someone who had a similar issue to myself. Like you I already had an overdraft and had increased it on line - the PPI box could not be unchecked as it had already been applied to previous overdarfts on the same account.
I was beginning to think I was the only person to whom this particular scenario had applied.
I can only tell you what happened to me. I submitted a claim after phoning the barclays Insurance number in Dublin (0500 500 700) to find out the date the PPI had started as I was not 100% sure. They duly provided the date and I duly submitted the form on the basis that had I not allowed the check box to remain checked, I would not have been able to proceed with my application - that being the case, the PPI eas not an option.
Now I fully expected them to come back and say well hang on a minute, you could have called into a branch at any time and cancelled, but, to be fair to them, they didn't.
So, if i were in your shoes, I would definitely submit a claim. Ask yourself, if you had been allowed to, would you have unchecked the box ? If yes, then it really was n't for you and the only reason you took it was you had no choice as the system was set up that way.

Thanks for the reply and yes its good to hear someone else has the same complaint as me, I definately would have not had PPI on the new increased amount if I had been given a choice, I think it was probably a saturday or sunday when I did it or I would have gone into the branch, I will call that number above and see when mine started I think it was back in 2003 which is 9 years of paying £10 a month, its over £1,000 ive been paying and its still active. I also noticed recently they have changed the wording on the statements im sure previously they used to just say 'charges' now they actually state payment protection. Im also sure I have my bank statements going back to about 1998 so they will tell me alot when I can find them in the loft

You're very welcome. At the very least you can expect them to stop the PPI from the moment they make a decision so, come what may, you should be better off by a little more per month.
If it's of any interest, they have not, to date, withdrawn my overdraft facility.0 -
thats good to know also been as i use it on a regular basis

Hi
I also have ppi on my barclays over draft that I have been paying for the last 14yrs, I didnt even know what it was. I have submitted a claim on mis sold ppi, that if I knew i even had it i would have claimed when i was made redundant 4 yrs ago. It has been turned down on the 1st and final letter and I have put it in the hands of the ombudsmen. Hope it goes well for you.0 -
I hope you get somewhere with yours too.0
