Might be a driving assessment and questions on highway code.0

Well it's a customer facing job so i'd say someone who is good with people, experience of logistics and driving. Some actually pick customers orders and loads then delivers. A driving licence would be good too. Can't see any questions on highway code or a driving assessment but you never know.0

I used to arrange interviews for Sainsbury's there will be a driving theory test, then a generic test they make everyone do then a 1-1 interview your friend should have been told this when they arranged the interview, I didn't do the actual interviews so don't know what they are like but as the above poster says they should sell their customer service skills."It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." :T0

As long as your friend isn't a total chump he'll be fine. You need to have some customer service skills, I wouldn't say I am the most friendly person in the world but when a customer answers the door to me it flows naturally and I'd say I was a pleasure to deal with. Most customers are really nice, it's very rare that you will get a bad one.0

Also if your friend has not driven a van before, suggest that he reads up on it as they have different speed limits etc to cars. You also have to remember how high and wide you are!0

Theres a test for sure thats pc based i believe.
Good luck0 -
thanks for all your help :j0

There is a theory test sort of thing on the computer, you must score low or medium risk to pass. Then once you have your module 1 and 2 booked, you are insured to drive the vans. Module 1 will see you doing some theory work with an AA Drivetech instructor, then you'll go out for a drive with him. He'll score you at the end and again you must be either low or medium risk to pass. Module 2 is all paperwork and customer based (this is all done in store with a Sainsbury's driver trainer). Module 3 you go out with an AA Drivetech instructor doing actual deliveries.0

If you have an accident(could be set to 2 but not sure) you then get a drivetech instructor to sit with you on 1 of your runs.0

I've seen several posts about this in different areas so herewith a recent experience of the process.
Find vacancy.
Hit apply.
If not already, you register on the site, which includes personal details.
Work through on screen questions and answers; mainly revolving around customer service. Some might seem a little odd but just think about what they are trying to learn about you. If you pass this stage you will receive email to call and arrange interview.
Receive interview confirmation e-mail.
Report to Customer Services a few minutes before interview time, and make sure you know who to ask for – it will be in your interview confirmation email. You will need passport or birth certificate to prove eligibility to work in UK, and proof of address (bank statement or similar) and both parts of drivers licence. You will also need to know your shoe, trouser, shirt and jacket sizes.
Interview is in three parts.
Complete an AA online assessment which will adjudge your driving knowledge / experience / history as low, medium or high risk. Takes about 10 minutes. Only low or medium risk go to next part.
DVD question and answer session covering customer service, observation and some basic (very basic) arithmetic. Schedule for around 45 minutes, but last part (arithmetic) ignore DVD and just whiz through.
Face to face interview. Structured, and not much more than being read a series of questions / statements, and the chance to ask your own questions.
If successful, booked in for module 1 training which is 2 long days (9am – 7pm) which is almost entirely about working in the store and very little to do with driving. Good bit about history of Sainsburys as well.
At end of 2 days a written test based on what you have been told and everyone gets 100%…Also, given your uniform and first four shifts: 2 accompanying existing drivers plus the third being the AA DriveTech and the fourth module 2 training.
AA DriveTech day. Almost full day. This is with a driving instructor and starts with a presentation and Q&A session about safe driving etc. Then you are shown how to check over a van before taking it out. Next is behind the wheel, close manoeuvring the van around cones, then out driving with instruction / feedback as seen fit by the instructor. Back at store a written test / assessment (multiple choice).
Module 2 is a short one day with either a DriveTEch instructor or Sainsburys Driver trainer which is more about how to actually do the job.
Depending on how you and your manager feel, your next shift will be solo, accompanying a driver, or accompanied by a driver. If all goes smoothly, your off and running. There is a lot to remember in the procedure to get out on the road, and so do try and do a crib sheet as it is easy to forget something and if you do, it can really mess up your day.
You are paid every 4 weeks on a Friday, (13 X a year) and this will be for hours completed up to and including the preceding Saturday. Latest pay-day is 18th May 2012. After 6 months, you are eligible for staff discount and pay goes up by (I think) 50p per hour. Current pay is around £6.50 per hour plus 50p ‘plusage’* so £7 per hour rising to around £7.50 at 6 months. (An amount over and above the store staff to acknowledge driving is an additional skill.)
I hope this is use.0
