Am I being too cautious please?

Basically I bought (for me is) an expensive item from a ebay seller. The item was won for £210 by me. They have a 57 all positive feedback and have been on ebay since 2002. The settlement method was paypal which I happy with as we both have confirmed addresses. However he's invoiced me to say he'd prefer bank transfer to paypal if I could and will discount the price if I do. This makes me nervous particularly as although british they reside in Marbella Spain.
Any thoughts please? Was gonna send a polite reply back saying I'd prefer paypal.

  • Use Paypal and play it safe, do you really want to take the risk of losing over £210?

The seller may be ok but if I was you Paypal has much better protection for you if anything went wrong. Like I say if you do pay with Bank Transfer you could end up kicking yourself just like so many other buyers have done. 57 feedback is nothing, you'd want a good 2000 plus feedback to even feel the slightest bit safe.

The seller put paypal in his payment options so he should not go back on his word, remember you the customer comes first.

make sure your payal is funded y a credit car too
double indemnity if it goes wrong and paypal go silent
  • As the others have said, in this situation I would pay by PayPal using a Credit Card. You'll have some protection that way, just in case. :)

Thanks everyone I shall politely explain I prefer paypal. I have done a bank transfer once but that was to a powerseller with over 37,000 positive feedback and had a 'real' bricks and mortar shop that he'd run for many years.
I guess it's the low score that bothers me even though it's perfect!

    anyways..thanks again! :T
  • sellers like bank transfers because they dont pay any fees to receive the money, and no chance of any paypal chargebacks....

Safety first. If your item doesn't come - you lose. Protect yourself. Definately go through paypal

I emailed him and was honest and he replied exactly as you suggested that he was just trying to save fees but hadn't mentioned it in his auction and he was sorry for worrying me. I just paid via paypal (confirmed).

    Thanks everyone!
