So I registered with first direct about a week ago and got a couple of savings accounts - I phoned them to get my telephone security password and login details and sorted that out. A few days I ago I applied online for a 1st account because I wanted a debit card but I couldn't do that because it said I didn't have a "valid account for this request" Though I think I did something wrong on my part (not clicking on the right link)
Anway I enter all my details and they said they would contact me within 24 hours - they email me saying:
"Thank you for applying for an account with first direct.
As a matter of course we check the details of all new customer applications and we've noticed that we already hold details for you.
To enable us to proceed with your application, all you need to do is log onto your Internet Banking account and select 'apply for' and follow the on screen instructions."
Except when I log on there isn't a apply for button! Only apply online which takes me through the applying for the first account again which already has my details
Please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hi. Iv'e been a FD customer since it started. Originally it was "phone-banking" only. As I recall, I think I had to request my web login details by phone. They then sent them to me by post, (two long numbers). I then had to select "internet banking" on their website and insert these details. Once done, you then choose username, passwords and memorable data(different from phone login"). Best to give them a call.0

Are you logging on to first directs internet banking service, or just selecting "apply" from their web page ?0
