What the hell for? They're more dangerous on cornering and take longer to stop than a car.0 -
How much was the original estimate. A clutch, oil pump, water pump and timing belt. The bill (even without their f===k up) has to be more than the value of the car?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The schools only 500 yards away, only 2 corners. Should be ok.0 -

Then you don't need a vehicle to get the kids to school.
Let them walk. It's called exercise.

But a car doesn't do as good a job of totally blocking the pavement outside the school.0 -

Unless you're one of the UKs ever growing number of disabled, whats wrong with walking it? - In my former job I used to walk 10 miles a day with ease and that was with a serious health problem that could of qualified me for DLA. I'm a grafter though and I kept working stupidly. I look back now and think of myself as a right mug.0 -
Thank you to the people that have replied with comments I can use!!
The garage were supposed to have diagonosed the problem today but surprise surprise they havent even looked at it.
As to how much I was quoted for my repairs and if it is more than the car is worth that is irrelevant, what is relevant is that my car went in with a working engine and now it isnt!!
As for it been a Frontera And "A steaming pile of ****!" that is your opinion but it is our family car and a good work car. How have the garage done me a favour when now we not only dont have a car but my partner is unable to work properly as we have no transport.......your comment has been as useful as the mechanic who has worked on it!!0 -

And somebody can be held accountable for that, as I mentioned all businesses must be insured against all losses incurred AND damage they cause to customer property......
The Frontera was a Vauxhall/Isuzu joint effort beasty and as with most cars built between 2 companies on a budget to put a car into a showroom to meet demand, the result was poor to say the least.... Although at the time, the competition wasn't much better either.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

So you need to look at my earlier options. You need to get tough on the garage. If they say they're going to sort it and then don't bother when they've already given you the run around then they're clearly not interested in the job and never were. That said they shouldn't of taken the job but did so now they need to see it through.
If it were me, I'd go down there in person with a notepad and pen. Find out whats wrong, what date it will be sorted by and hold them to it whilst then taking your notes elsewhere (IE the small claims court). Also if you have a small voice recorder (or a phone that can do it) stick it in your pocket and record the lot.
I've dealt with a couple of scummy garages over the years and they infuriate me.0
