Baffled about "My Favourites"

can anyone tell me why when I save a site into my favourites it has a nice little individual icon (eg picture of Martin for MSE) but when I log on next time, the icon has changed to the "e" explore sign? I find it annoying as it is not so easy to distinguish between the list of sites.

The file is called the favicon.ico ( fav + icon ) it is held in your internet cache - if you clear your temporary internet files, except by tools>> internet options >> delete files the the favicon.ico will be deleted. the above method leaves the favicon.ico files in place - well in IE 6 it does.....
The default favicon.ico is the blue e. so if the one assigned to the site by the webmaster had been deleted then it will not be there to show
HTHRich people save then spend.

I think it's something to do with a file not being retained, it's better now with IE7, seems to save more icons.
