Ford Mondeo MK11 2001 Query...
Good evening, I have read several threads on this doom and gloom "manifold" issue with the Mondeo and have a couple of questions;
I have carried out the screwdriver test by putting my lug on each manifold pipe without success, I shall try my best to describe what I hear.
Without the need for a screwdriver I can hear a rattle, very fast clickity clack noise almost like the sound of that wheel on the old tv game show "wheel of fortune" when they spin it round for prizes etc and it clicks, this noise however seems to go away or at least ot be noticable at higher revs.
Has my time bomb started ticking? I have no way of telling if the mod has been done as I have no service history.
So, to summarise;
X-REG Jan 2001 Mondeo Estate LX 1.8L Duratech Petrol car.
If I am doomed, can I buy a complete manifold unit off ebay or from a scrap yard from say a circa 2003+++ Mondeo and pay a garage to fit it?
I am not very savvy with mechanics and motors, I write software and fix computers - worlds apart.
Can you recomend anyone from the North East who can help me, I am on a tight budget so cant approach Croxdale Fast Fit or Ford as they will have the only shirt off my back!
Kind Regards
Rob.

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

You have a MK11, one of the last, a 2003 will be a MK111 Mondy. I'm not sure whether you could swap manifolds. My advice would be to register on the Talkford forums (used to be Mondeo forum).0

Just broke the vacum by removing the little pipe and the noise went away so sounds like the dreaded flappy thing noise, best get a new unit sourced!Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? You could buy a used manifold and still be in the same position , it's probably better and cheaper to just buy 4 new flaps and fit them into your manifold.
I changed a set on a Mondeo around 3 years back , they cost just over £20 for the 4 of them.0 -
Manifold flaps on early cars can fail in a bad way. Bits drop into the engine. Take the arm off the flaps and see if the noise stops.
The noise you describe and going away with some revs sounds more like the belt tensioner. These are common also.
If it is the manifold you need that and a few pipes as well, The later revised manifolds have a different sized pipe so you can tell if its been replaced before.
Larger pipe = new manifold at some point in time.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

That's where you need to register. I used to go there for Mondy advice. They're mad about Mondys there. Best place to ask for a Mondy enthusiast to come and give you a hand (for a fee) to do the work.

The flaps can aparently be discarded with no ill effects. Definitely sign up to Talkford though, loads of useful info, step by step pics., etc.0
