Dla While Working

Hi all can anyone tell me how to get help while working full time? Is it possible to get help but, continue to work? My son has great problems with mobility but, he continues to work and at times has to get taxis to work as he is unable to cope with public transport. My husband has a car on the mobilty scheme but, he does not work so, the situation is very different. Jacqui

  • You are able to claim DLA because it is not means tested. It therefore doesn't matter if you work or not.

    Hi jac/norm,

Access to Work help might be appropriate for your son too. The type of help it can give includes help with the additional costs of travel to work for people who are unable to use public transport. The link gives more information about it.

    Hope this helps,

I get DLA and work full time, I get high rate care and low mobility (I have bipolar disorder).

The DLA enables me to work flexibly (and not worry about the money) and also treat my friend/carer to some nice things.

I'd say go for it. There's lots of advice at https://www.direct.gov.uk
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Living with ME, fibromyalgia and (newly diagnosed but been there a long time) EDS Type 3 (Hypermobility). Woo hoo :rotfl:
  • I get DLA too, and was granted it when I was working full time. I have high rate mobility and lowest rate care (arthritis).

It could be possible that he would also qualify for WTC with the disability premium too.

Thank you all for the replys he is going to put in a claim I will post back when he gets a reply. (long way off) Jacqui
  • There is no problem claiming DLA either mobility or care or both components while working full time. DLA is a non-mean tested benefit which means you get it regardless of your income or working status. DLA doesnt effect your other benefits like housing, council tax, IS/JSA etc. WTC can be claimed with disablity premimum and motibility will also helps to get modified car or other transportation solutions.
Please note that if you dont think you can fill the form then ask your local CAB or local council's welfare rights unit or social services to arrange a DLA form filling appointment. You get DLA on the basis of information you provide on the claim form and you get points accordingly. The more care needs and less mobility would award you more points to get DLA.
    Good Luck
:money: Doubling of debt equals ’stabilising this financial problem’. This new definition is very handy. Blood pressure doubled in 12 months? Don’t bother treating it, it’s stable! Tumour size doubled? Don’t worry about that cancelled op, your tumour’s stable! Think of the savings that can be made!:money:

There is no points system with DLA.
