Hi everyone! This is a plea from someone who has no baking knowledge whatsoever!!! (apart from a pre packaged cake mix!) - if this is in the wrong place, i do apologise
I am raising money for Comic Relief this year by baking buns and biscuits and selling them at my work place. Trouble is, I have no idea how to make anything :rotfl:
If anyone has some great biscuit / cake recipes that I could use (and the easier the better!!) I would be really grateful!

I'm going to move your thread to the OS board
There are so many people there that are wizzes in the kitchen that I think they might be able to help you better

I made "Red nose" Buns for my sons school - these require no baking. Make chocolate rice crispy buns (melt chocolate in a bowl then add crispies - pile miture into bun cases, add half a glaze cherry to the top and leave to set). The kids loved 'em.0

I have been making this to sell on cake stalls from toddler group upwards and it is always the first one to sell out! :T
ALL IN ONE CHOCOLATE BANANA CAKE
CAKE
6½ oz (190g) plain flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 tsp baking powder
5 oz caster sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
2 beaten eggs
¼ pint (150 ml) milk
¼ pint (150 ml) sunflower oil
2 mashed bananas
TOPPING
2 oz melted butter
2 tbsp milk
8 oz icing sugar
Few drops of vanilla essence
Sift together the flour, cocoa, bicarbonate, baking powder and caster sugar. Add the golden syrup, eggs, milk, sunflower oil and bananas. The mixture should be like thick batter.
Pour into a foil lined, greased and floured roasting tin (about 10” x 12” seems to be about right). Bake at gas mark 3 (325 F or 170 C) for about 40 mins depending on your oven – it needs to be springy to the touch. Turn out onto a cooling rack and peel off the foil.
To make the topping, melt the butter, add the milk and then the icing sugar, beating as you go. Don’t go exactly by the weight – just stop adding it when it is butter icing consistency. Spread on top of the cake and cut into squares or slices.
My kids are grown up now but it still disappears as soon as I make it! :rotfl:Oh dear, here we go again.0 -

My lads make these, really easy peasy
Every Day Biscuits
Ingredients:
1/2 lb butter (softened)
4 oz sugar (castor)
1/2 lb SR Flour
1 tsp vanilla essence
Instructions:
Beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add vanilla and fold in the flour
Mix to a smooth dough
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for a minute or two. Roll into a sausage shape approx 5cm/ 2in in diameter, put in fridge to chill until firm.
To Freeze: Wrap in foil, pack in a freezer bag. Seal, label and freeze.
To Thaw and Serve: Thaw in the wrappings in the fridge for approx 30 mins, then cut into thin (ish) slices, place on greased baking sheets and bake in a preheated oven for 10mins. Gas 5/190C/ 375F
Transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool. Sprinkle with icing sugar before serving.
Variations:
Chocolate: Sub 25g / 1oz cocoa powder for the vanilla.
Cherry: Add 50g / 2 oz glace cherries, finely chopped
Nut: Add 50g/2oz chopped almonds or walnuts.
Notes:
These take moments to prep. I make one batch and cut the 'sausage' in half before chilling.
Once chilled to firm, one half is then put in the freezer.
The "dough" will keep in the fridge for a few days, so you can "slice" fresh biscuits as and when required.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
