Do you think teenagers are educated enough on personal finances?

  • No. What are you selling us?
  • No they are not.
  • I'm not selling anything. I am a student at the university of East London. For my current university module I am studying networking and we have been asked to pick a subject for a discussion and my topic is the buy-it-now-culture.

In my personal experience I was not educated in personal finance, least of all well enough to handle them effectively as a teenager.

As a teenager I found myself succesptible to credit product marketing and had no better judgement to go along side it, and found myself declaring bankruptcy at the age of 21 due to the amount of debt I got myself into.

There was already a poll advertised here regarding financial education and over 100,000 people voted in favour of it becoming a required study subject at school.

This is IMHO not something that should be left up to parents to teach their children.

    a) because a lot of parents (i.e. nearly all the parents I know) are financially immature themselves
    b) teenagers have a tendancy not to listen to their parents
