New York

Hi everyone,

Im off to the states in June. Visiting LA and Vegas which is fine.
The last part in NY from the 19th until the 29th is looking rather expensive. The one thing i have noticed is that Hotel prices seem to be extortionate!

Could some kind soul point me in the right direction to find good quality hotels that dont cost £100 a night and where the best area's would be to stay too.

Thanks in advance and i love you!

  • I am due to visit New York for the first time in November and had the problem of finding a hotel with good reviews within our budget.

In the end we booked the radio city apartments (https://www.radiocityapts.com) which is approx £100 a night but the reviews on tripadvisor are very good and the hotel is in a very good location.

If you don't mind using a shared bathroom you can find some hotels that are cheaper. We personally didn't like this idea.

    Have a good trip :D

  • Im unsure as to current prices, but i have stayed at the Herald Square Hotel twice and seem to remember it was very good value, and in a wonderful location (about 2 blocks from the Empire State Building, and just off 5th Avenue)

Im going back for 2 nights in September and have booked into Hotel 31. This place has got some decent reviews on Trip Advisor and i managed to book a twin room for about £150 for the two nights.
  • I definatley dont want any communal baths/showers! Just looking for a comfortable room in a good area.

we stayed at the hotel Novetel on broadway and it was fanastic, ask for room 2403 and you will have the most amazing views of broadway. The staff are excellant, rooms are lovely and is really convenient for metros and the bus stop.

Public transport is so cheap and quick in NY it is worth considering neighbouring parts of New Jersey or other boroughs of NY where hotels are far cheaper than on Manhattan.
  • I actually cannot believe how expensive some of the room rates are in alot of places!
  • We stayed in the Big Apple Hostel (http://www.bigapplehostel.com/) it was communal bathrooms/showers however there was 2 bathrooms shared between 4 rooms, the rooms were great, big private bedrooms with cable tv, towels changed everyday & the shower rooms were really clean.

Would definitely go back there again - we didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway in New York.

New York is very very expensive, but from our experience you get what you pay for. Hard thing to say but if you don't pay the going rate fear the worst, tales of mice, rats and cockroaches from some of the hotels we looked at on Tripadvisor.

We have booked for New Year 2007/08 and were going to do it on the cheap, we ended up paying a little more and going back to The Sofitel, at least we knew what we were getting.
