RBS - Advanta CC - Revised offer but still not happy

Options
Hi all

I'm after some advice on a claim with RBS, an Advanta credit card from the late 90s.

After my initial complaint letter I received an offer of £0.02 relating to the last days of the card account. They said that the didn't have any records prior to this date.

So... I searched back through all of my records and managed to find four statements, covering a total period of 11 months, with an average monthly PPI payment of around £23.00. The closing balance on the card has actually increased on all of the statements. This was sent back to RBS in mid-December.

Finally, last week, after weeks of me chasing, I received an offer of around £220... Thing is, it was based only on PPI payments of £91.71, the total of the 4 statements, the have not taken into account the other 7 months in between the first and last available statement.

I would have expected that they take the average of the 4 monthly payments and then apply this across 11 months, as it's clear that the card balance was increasing over the whole 11 month period so the PPI payments would have followed the same trend.

Am I correct in this assumption? And can anybody advise how to get this sorted out properly? I'm loathed to go through yet another 6 weeks of chasing for what should ultimately be a very simple re-calculation.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hi MoodyBlue,
The only thing I can suggest is to write to them making sure you highlight the dates of the statements (send copies of statements again) and argue your case exactly as you have above. I can understand that they have no records going back that far but the fact that you have supplied the statements should back up your perfectly logical assumption. I can't say for certain that your assumption is correct but in lots of cases where no records are held the banks often say "if you can supply further statements to support your case we will take them into account" or similar
It could be a case of someone at their end not realising the gap of 7 months. I know it means another wait but it might be worth trying. As you say phoning is a waste of time. Sorry I can't suggest anything that might be more productive :o
