Mulsanne insurance, any feedback on them?

Options
Hi
As one of my business ventures I am about to put a named driver on to a taxi I own. At present it is just myself insured to drive but due to concentrating more on my other interests I can make money settling the car out and still have the use of it myself at weekends where the big money can be made.
I have been through several brokers and the one that has came back with a decent quote (still £2400!) is using an insurer called MULSANNE. Never heard of them myself or know anyone who has.
I suppose as long as it fulfills the legal requirement I'm ok but was just after some feedback on them from brokers/customers etc.
One good thing the broker said is that they are one of the few companies who will reduce the premium during the term of the policy if it doesnt work out between me and the named driver, so mitigates some of the risk, although I know it still wouldnt go back to the amount of just me as a driver.
Thanks for any replies

  • Never heard of them but they have only been authorised for the last 18 months or so (which is after I stopped looking at Motor).

Personally I have a general discomfort with companies registered out of Gibraltar but that is a massive sweeping generalisation

I believe they are Allen & Allen's underwriting venture. Avoid like the plague IMO. Just another insurer who knows nothing about taxi dipping into the market due to the higher premiums.

Tradex are awful but at least they have been underwriting taxi for a fair while now unlike Mulsanne.

Problem I have is tradex are quoting 600 per year more due to add driver, so im stuck between a rock and a hard place, £50 a month is a fair whack. What would you do, and whats the worst could happen with mulsanne

    Thanks quentin.
Wasnt after a glowing recommendation. Just asking whats the worst that could happen if i went with them. As they meet the legal obligation and theyre 600 cheaper than everyone else what have i got to lose?

Worst = they dont payout for some smallprint clause you didnt read properly.

I guess you need to make sure named drivers are fully covered to carry passengers also and not a reduced cover. Make sure they are aware the main driver is not the registered keeper/owner.
