Mixing winter/normal tyres

I would have thought in current sort of weather, pretty much any winter tyre will have far more grip than pretty much any summer tyre - that isn't good on the bendy stuff when you may most need it, or if you have to brake and one side at the back goes very light....

As you say it will depend somewhat on what is actually on the car

I've gone for putting the alloys and summer tyres back on the rear, a test drive seemed OK (although for a change it's about 10 degrees here today). I'll take the tyre with the nail in to see if it can be repaired, if it can then I'll put the winter tyres back on again, if not I'll stick with the current set up for a few weeks and replace the winter tyre before next winter.
