How much is your pilot light costing you?

My pilot light is more or less the same perhaps even more I'm currently testing it ie only having the pilot light on and nothing else for over 24 hrs I am on a prepayment metre so that's why mine is far more expensive. The sooner I leave UW the better ill update once the 24 hr period is concluded.0

A PPM costs the same as the supplier's Standard tariff. Not 'far more expensive'. You would save maybe 6% on a credit meter with an online discount tariff. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

That is why his gas is so expensive, you missed that he is with UW.0 -
UW charges 8.74 for the first 2680 then 4.7 for the rest. Ebico charges 4.8 for all units which is probably the cheapest for PPM. It's costing me 17p In 11 hrs I'll check tomorrow at 9am to get the final total.
Edit if it's 35p per day that's 10.50 per month which is less than th 15 pounds quoted in the first post I wonder if I'm working this out correctly. Are PPM done in real time credit wise ?0 -

Too much, 15% of my gas usage a year.0 -
I have a condensing boiler which has no pilot. However, even when in "eco-mode" is does fire up now and again.
Some people say that condensing boilers just don't last as long. So given the costs I'm unsure as to whether changing my ferroli optima combi (with pilot) for a modern worcester condenser was such a good idea.As surely as night follows day capitalism will come crumbling down. On a mission to secure a just and ethical society.0 -
Thanks again, for further replies.
I'm thinking there may be a boiler problem, as, when I did a reading yesterday, it came on for 5 - 10 seconds at random - if it's doing this countless times a day, then that would explain the gas usage, and the fact that the inner metal casing of the boiler is usually warm, which I wouldn't have thought would be caused from just a pilot light.
Macman - I'm not saying I only use 2 litres of hot water a day, that's only a "what if" scenario. However, when I run the bathroom tap to handwash etc, I'm usually washing in cold water, as it takes a while for the hot water to come through anyway. By the time the hot water has reached the tap, I've probably turned it off!
Ollski - a water pre heat function . . . now that could possibly explain what's going on!
Foxhound - "it does fire up now and again" maybe that's the above function then?
I'm going to ring the plumber that installed it back in '94, and see what he says, and find out why it's coming on in this intermittent way.
I will post result on this forum.0 -
If the OP has a conventional boiler, how can it have a pre-heat function? I thought this was a relatively recent combi development-certainly not around in 1994!No free lunch, and no free laptop0

in a 24 hr period the pilot light cost 39p which is £11.86 per month
with ebico this should come down to a little over 7 pounds still alot but its a very old boiler and near the end of its life IMO0
