Help! Ideas for Golden Wedding Anniversary

Morning, All
I discovered last night that it is my parent's Golden Wedding Anniversary next month. 50 Years! Wow! :j
So, I've booked a lovely restaurant for a meal for the family, and will arrange a wee cake with sparklers to give them a little surprise, but am completely bereft of ideas for a meaningful pressie.
Having googled pressie ideas, I hate everything that has come up - yes, a classic case of I know what I don't want, but don't know what I do want!
The more personal things like photo montages are out as I can't get my hands on photos without involving them.
I thought maybe something significant from each decade, but can't think of anything family-wise really that doesn't involve the need for photos...and we're a very small family, so honestly, there's not been a lot gone on over the 50 years...sad but true. Or not that anyone has told me about...:rotfl:
Any ideas at all will be gratefully received as they may kick start my brain into action...I hope! I have no budget set aside for this, but am happy to spend whatever I need to within reason of course, to help make this a memorable occasion for them.
My brother is paying for them to have a weekend away, so am unable to join forces for a jointy pressie.
Many thanks in anticipation

If they like gardening what about a tree or shrub-something golden in colour or with gold in the name, there may even be a golden anniversary rose. They will get a lot of enjoyment watching it grow. Hope you find something.£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund
Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.

I was going to suggest a rose as well. There is one called golden wedding or something similar.
You could also do a hamper filled with gold coloured objects - chocolates, candles, photoframes and flowers and probably many more ideas which I can't think of at moment.0 -
When it was my parents - in - law golden wedding last year, I got a big box from Ikea, covered it with gold paper, and then filled it with 50 items with a gold theme. This included grocery items with gold in the title ( eg coffee, biscuits, cereal, sugar, syrup, chocolate, sweets, pineapple)and golden items such as coasters, candles, potpourri and a disch, a photo frame with a copy of their wedding photo. It took me quite a few months to amass everything, but they seemed to appreciate it.
Got a suitable poem, and their youngest granddaughter copied it out for them and put it on top of the box0 -
I always buy a rose to plant from these people: http://www.countrygardenroses.co.uk/
They are really good and grow well. You can also name a rose after them too, which I did for my aunt & uncle for their Sapphire Anniversary.I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Many thanks for all the suugestions Much appreciated!:T
I think I'm going to go for a combination of a gold hamper (with as many golden things as I can...will I get 50?? and one of them being a rose in a gold pot for their wee garden)
Yay! I'm off to investigate further. But thanks again for your suggestions. You've certainly kick started me as I'd hoped.
You're all stars!:A

P.S. I love the idea of the poem...that's one thing nailed already. Thank you!0 -
Hi LavenderBees,
As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've moved it over to the Special Occasions board to see if you can get some more ideas.

Hi LB,
There is actually a Weddings & Anniversaries board, but it mainly has wedding related threads so I thought that your thread might get more response here. It may be worth doing a search for ''golden wedding anniversary'' on that board though.

what can I say...you're a gem. On one of these threads is the idea for a memory jar. Given that I know so little about my family, I love the idea that my parents could spend some time pulling together a book of memories firstly for them, but also for me and their grand children.
Many thanks for pulling these threads together for me. Lots of fabulous ideas, and I'll definitely be taking a few of these ideas and concocting a very special present.

If you are looking for something really special, you can create a song for your partner with all your anecdotes through the years. There's a site called cancionespararegalar.com, where professional musicians will do all the job with the instructions you deliver to them.0
