Grandparents' golden wedding anniversary

Hi All
Not posted for a while....had a flippin awful couple of months but that's another long story lol
Anywho...it's my grandparents' golden wedding anniversary on 16th May and we're trying to organise something for them. I just want to start by saying that without them I would've been right up the creek over the past year or so. They have helped me so much, I'm forever thankful to them...hence why I want to do something special for this milestone
We've arranged a little get together at the hall where me and OH got married in August because it's set in beautiful surroundings (and sunday lunch is a deal at £9.95 :T). I managed to "acquire" all the family photos from their house the other week and have had a montage of their life together created with the help of a photographer friend (done for free due to me helping him through a really tough time recently).
But I can't help but feel that it's not enough to show how much they mean to me. People keep telling me that just being there and thinking about arranging for their closest friends and family to be there as a surprise at the meal is enough....but....is it?!
I'm probably over-analysing as usual...but the fact remains that I feel guilty for the financial situation they are now in from helping me out (my Dad bascially stitched me up with £75k of debt and did a disappearing act). Can't help but feel so guilty. I never asked for their help - they did it all off their own back and refused to see me suffer because of his misdemeanours.
Rant over. Can't you tell I'm tired?! Lol

Awwww - that's a lovely story TM.
I think you have done enough though - they wouldn't be expecting any of this, would they??
The only other thing I can suggest is to contact your local paper - they love long marriage stories, and it could be your chance to say how special they are too (without having to divulge too many details of why!)
My grandparents will be celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary two weeks after your grandparents celebrate their 50th, and they have already warned us that they don't want ANY fuss!!! (they tried to do that for their 50th, but we organised a surprise family meal for them!!!)Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Hi TM - congratulations to your grandparents!
My family had a similar anniversary recently and we did the photo thing too, which is a lovely keepsake for them.
We "borrowed" their address book and contacted their family and friends, including bridesmaids/best man and asked them to send us comments, memories, stories and best wishes as well as other photos that the happy couple may not have seen before.
We included all these in the photo book - there were many tears when they opened it!0 -
Thanks all....I really do over-analyse things sometimes!
I just worry alot lol
Am going to have a look at red letter days. Just spoken to one of my Mum's friends whose daughter makes cakes...and she's going to make a cake in the form of their first car with two figures resembling my nan and grandad - nan with her gardening stuff around her, and grandad with his diy equipment...not forgetting a bottle of gin and a bottle of tonic too lol
Should raise a chuckle or two from anyone who knows them!;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0
