How To Fix Crack in Ceiling

Hope someone can help as I am a DIY novice....
Basically my son overfilled the bath and water has come through the kitchen ceiling and caused the paper on the ceiling to crack. It seems more cosmetic and rather than call a tradesman I thought I would try to fix it myself.
What should I use to fill the crack ? Or will I need to get the whole ceiling redecorated?
Thanks

Is it the fabric of the plasterboard itself that has split spendless? Is it still wet?
If the ceiling is still flat but a minor crack has opened up, once dry, polyfilla applied with a flexible filling knife should sort it.0 -
It is dry and yes it is the fabric....I will try with polyfilla, thank you0

it's filling a crack in the ceiling , not building the pyramids of giza
get a filling knife , the crack may need a bit of raking out , fill with filla , sand down when dry , seal with a bit of thinned paint and then paint ,if there's a brown water stains then you need to seal that with either a stain block or solvent base undercoat0
