Hazard lights randomly coming on

Neighbour has just knocked on the door. The hazard lights on my car are randomly coming on. They came on once whilst I was out there, about 30 seconds or so after I'd locked it (double locked with the imobiliser).

I've been out and it was all locked up, couldn't see any sign of somebody tampering with it, but the remote central locking is working intermittently. This is the first time I've had this issue, it was fine about 6.40pm when I locked it up for the night.

It will unlock the car, but not necessarily lock it. Imobiliser can't be activated from the key fob. Put the key in the door and it locks/unlocks OK. Any ideas?

Think I'm going to go and put it up the drive or I'll be having a sleepless night!

I've just put it up the drive - blocked in with a set of gates and Dad's big Nissan so if it was somebody trying to get their mitts on it (they have tried before, it's the cheapest car on the street so an easy target :() they'll have job now!

Locked and immobilised fine from the key fob then. Will give the garage a call in the morning to see what's up.

Probably a faulty switch in a door or the boot/bonnet.

It thinks the ar is not fully locked, Mondeo's have an issue with the bonnet switch. Ther terminals corrode and cause the alarm to sound.

    Does your alarm work?

This. I had a Rover 600 which would occassionally get water in the control box in the boot that did the alarm.

My MK3 Mondeo would have an odd time where it'd do the same and no fault was ever found. I just single locked it for a few days and it sorted it.

Last year I was parked up in a local supermarket, and when I came out there were three cars with flashing lights/and/or alarm going. They were my X reg Mondeo Mk2 (lights only), X reg Ford Galaxy and an X reg Focus - go figure:D

Depending on the car it can be a host of things. Sure its not just an old age hazard switch if its a Vauxhall?
If you have an intermittent fault you will have to go through each door, boot and bonnet swtich to make sure they have sound connections and are working properly, before going through the tedium of checking all the wiring continuity. Even then, there are loads of cars with even original electronics, never mind add-ons, that have control boxes in stupidly exposed areas, just ready to get wet.

Sorry, how silly of me not to put in what car it is! Fiesta 1997 generally in good nick. Normally it refuses to lock if the doors are not shut properly although the alarm doesn't seem to cover the boot (I can open this using the key when the car is all locked, or lock the car with the boot open).

Definitely no signs of tampering in daylight. It started fine and locked/imobilised fine, no sign of any more hazards going off.

I put it up the drive again this evening, will see if I can get it into the garage soon because the more I think about it, the sillier it seems that the alarm wouldn't cover the boot!
