Hi
Having my hall way decorated and the decorator has said he can order the paint. The colours I've seen come from the Dulux color match range - the one where they mix it up in store.
Will the decorator be able to get the same shade made up and what's the quality of trade paint like compared to Dulux?
Thanks,

I have done that before with no problem, both for my living room and hallway. I think that the decorator can get it more cheaply than if you went to the shop yourself. Just make it clear to the decorator that it is specifically Dulux that you want and give the exact colour/shade by name.0 -
Most independent retailers can mix Dulux colours in Johnstone's/Leyland paint (which are better paints than Dulux).
'Trade' paints are generally more expensive but better quality than the retail versions of the same brands. (Greater opacity and better coverage).
Check however what your decorator plans to charge you for materials. Sometimes they quote low for labour, but whack it on as far as materials are concerned. Do not expect to benefit from any discount they may get at a decorator's centre or paint retailers; most decorators make a profit on materials even allowing for the time and diesel needed to collect them. If you supply the materials yourself, some decorators will simply charge you more for labour.
I'm a professional decorator and I don't make a profit from materials, but most do.0 -

My OH is also a professional decorator. He doesn't make a profit from materials, neither does he inflate prices if he only quotes labour.
However, he almost always uses Dulux paint and would agree that the trade paint is better quality and worth the extra cost. There are a number of clients that think they can cut corner's with cheaper paint. As with anything you only get what you pay for.
He will, of course, allow the client to choose their own paint, but would point out the difference in quality.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -
should the customer benifit from and discount the painters get from a trade centre , any "discount" they may get will be easily be swallowed up by fuel and time costs .0

dont fall for Glidden is Dulux in a different tin, we ban it at work.
Trade paints is no bother, its the finish that counts and if the wall, or previous colour is grinning through then ask for another coat at no extra.
Paying for a decorator though, remember, if you can pi55, you can paint!Sealed pot challange no: 3390 -
