Now we are getting veeery technical :rotfl:
I think it may be worth his while getting a plumber to look at it...any plumbers out there that could give me a rough idea how much it would cost to look at the system and set it up for him for the most economical outcome?0 -
I see- so he could just run the hot water one for an hour or so?
Also- from googling these appliances- doesn't the Amptec also act as a hot water heater? Why does he need 2 appliances?
Sorry for all the questions:oJust seen your edit happyMJ

The most economical set up is to run it as little as possible. He should be setting it so the water heats for 2 hours (or whatever the reheat time of the cylinder he has is) every day to bring the temperature up. This link http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/oso-20-series-indirect-unvented-hot-water-cylinders/20-series-brochure.pdf will tell you the exact reheat times. A 170litre cylinder requires 148 minutes (2 and a half hours).
He needs to look at his bills to see if it worth changing to a standard tariff where all units are around 10p plus a standing charge. It may be cheaper than paying around 5p at night and being penalized by paying 15p during the day.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
