British Gas has not charged me for 8 Months
Well as the title goes British Gas has not charged me for 8 Months. I have been providing meter reading on a regular basis. I was looking at my DD's and couldn't find the British Gas payments? So I went online and my account was 0. Rang them up and they said I think there is a problem with your online account and they would ring back tomorrow. I know I am going to get stung with a big bill and I am responsible for not keeping a handle on the payments, although I did give them my bank details for the direct debit. I just assumed they had been taking the money. I have my start Gas and electric readings so how could I find out how much I owe?
Also do you think I could get a payment plan in place for the outstanding balance.:embarasse

Subtract the current and start readings (and in the case of gas multiply by 11.2 for a metric or 32 for an imperial meter). Enter the resulting kWhrs into a comparison website for your tariff. The cost calculation is done for you.
Regarding BG, wait until they respond. See what they offer. If they admit their errror terms over the length of the error is not unreasonable.0 -
Thanks, did the maths and I got Current annual bill: £1,287.66, so divided by 12 and multiplied by 8 I get £858. So If they do offer to give me 8 months to pay that means an extra £107.25 per month. The irony is we got solar panels fitted last week to save money.
Thanks

The compare site would of been for 12 monthsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

No I divided the 8 months by 8 giving me my monthly figure. I then multiplied by 12 and entered this figure into the website.

Not entirely reliable, depending on where the winter months fell in the 8 month usage figure-your gas usage over the 3 winter months can be up to 80% of your annual total. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Don't worry about a big bill arriving.
Worst case will be that they discover they haven't been collecting the monthly payments and so will re-establish them at a slightly higher level to cover the shortfall"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Wouldn't describe that as "worst case".
Everybody should worry when a billing issue arises.0
