Vax carpet cleaner - worth buying?

Hi,

After 2 years in my house my carpets are badly in need of a clean. I have been looking at either getting someone in (which seems expensive), or buying a vax carpet cleaner.

I was wondering if anyone had any experince or recommendations on this?

TIA,
H

we used to have the old orange type vax. it was ok ish for carpets but was hard work. not brilliant.
we now hire one from HSS. much better.

BTW, if you know someone who works there, they can get it at half price.
    Get some gorm.

I would probably say to save your money - we've got one, but it's currently stored in the loft...it is seriously hard work using the carpet cleaner function and it does seem to only touch the surface. Plus you've got wet carpets for a good 12 hours.

Quite honestly, you'd probably be better off hiring a Rug Doctor, or similar. We used one a couple of weeks ago, it was about £30 for a 48 hour hire plus detergent (there was loads of this left over), and it was much easier than using the Vax. The carpets were dry within a couple of hours.

    Hope this helps

  • Hi,
If you want a machine to clean your carpets with little effort, invest in a Bissell upright cleaner. They are fantastic. Hope this helps.

We have a Bissell upright carpet cleaner.
Think it cost around £260. It is very heavy to use.
My auntie has a light weight upright vax cleaner and it cost less than £100. Wish i would have known how good it was before because i would have bought that instead and saved mysel over £150. The only draw back is that it doesn't have any hand tools but cleans the carpets well and is so light to use. I would definately go with a vax..

I have had a Vax 2000 for 10 years a bit noisy now as the bearings are wearing out but still going, brilliant suction highly recommended
  • I had a vax but found it very hard work, easier, as someone else suggested, to hire a machine as & when you need it. They do a better job & suck the water up properly too. Plus you don't need to find somewhere to stash it when you're not using it! ;)

I have a Vax carpet cleaner (the proper carpet cleaner not the 3 in 1). It does a very good job on my pale beige carpets but it is very heavy to use. It is also quite large so bear in mind you'll need somewhere to store it. I think it was a good buy - especially as it is shared between family members and we split the cost.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I'll rent a cleaner as it seems the best option given that I'm not likely to use the carpet cleaner that often. Cheers,

That is actually a very good money saving tip, it also holds true if you knew someone at Vax! I personally think the carpet cleaners from Vax are well worth their price and long term its always better to own than rent!
  • I rented a 'rugdoctor' this time and found it a pleasure to use - efficient and easy work!!
