money gone AWOL

I have just checked my bank account this evening to be confronted with something that has puzzled me.

All weekend my bank told me i had £52.22 available, i checked it again this morning and still had £52.22 so i took out £20 to pay an other bill in the bank.
This should have then left me £32.22 in the account but when i checked my account this evening it is telling me i have £28.57 so £3.65 has vanished some where.
my bank is HBOS and i took the money out of my account using there own machine as i always do. i have an arranged overdraft of £100 and never touch it nor have i ever been charged for having the arranged overdraft.
I am hoping it is a case of a mix up by the bank again , i say again because they have a bad habit of saying / showing less money is available than what you actually have and it seems to sort its self out a day or so later.

Just contacted my bank and they confirmed what money i have withdrawn and what money is shown on there system as withdrawn , but even the woman i spoke to cant see anything on there systems as to where the £3.65 has gone , she said i will need to wait a day or 2 for it to actually be removed from my account if at all , and if it has been then phone again.

It's probably an authorisation from maybe a couple of days ago which hasn't debited yet. Have you checked your receipts ?
  • the bank confirmed all money from my account / payments made have been withdrawn in full by all companies , one last week took there money in full. and then today cash point at the bank before i went into the bank.

I'd give it a few days then and see whether the balance changes or the missing amount debits. I wouldn't worry too much as it's such a small amount but check your account carefully for the next few days. Sometimes retailers can debit your account months after the transaction was made, could just be something you've forgotten about.

I was thinking that, but then it would appear on his online statement right? Which apparently it hasnt
  • Well the bank confirmed everything i have paid for has been withdrawn from my account in full. the 1 company last week , the payment to my catalogue bill was paid and went through as that is a faster payment both of which show on my statement online.
and the woman i spoke to said there is nothing showing on there system as anything to be withdrawn from my account by any company / anyone.

it might be a small amount but not one that should be showing at all if all companies have there money as is showing on my statement
  • well that will be that solved then.

The postman arrived this afternoon and there was a padded envelope addressed to me , i had not ordered anything that would fit through letter box .
I opened it and it was something i had ordered last year that was out of stock , the shop said once the item was back in stock they will send it onto me for free as it was there mistake in not making sure they had the item in stock.
a quick phone call and a very apologetic woman refunded the money.
