I don't know part of me thinks it would be worth billions to stop people moaning about estimated bills when they never give a meter reading... I do recall reading something a while ago about the facility to shut them off remotely, something to do with demand, but given utility companies notorious ability to !!!! things up we'll just have to hope nobody accidentally leans on the wrong button...

Why wouldn't they? They promise accurate billing on a half hourly basis.

You don`t get a bill every half hour, you only need a reading every quarter.
My energy account states I must provide a reading when they email me to do so.
All this talk of accurate billing is merely a red herring for what they really want the information for.

Well the main thing is no standard has been made for residential smart meters, every company is using something different and its just a mess at the moment. plus, smart meters to get them communicating correctly isn't as simple as just putting a sim into the modem.

The remote disconnection we are testing at the moment, problem is it requires a separate contactor for the tails to go into then it slots into the terminals, they are alot bigger than a standard meter, especially the 3phase ones...

Plus their is a a massive uproar about the remote disconnection, apparently someone died in Australia when remote disconnection was used on their meter..
