Does it look anything like this?
A straightforward job for a sparks to change it for a more modern one.
eg If you want the same make.

Its just possible that the QE2 for example is compatible with the existing backplate so it justs clips on and no rewiring is necessary.

Open it and there should be a rating plate giving the info. See post 7-probably just needs a battery change.
OP take care. The most recent post suggest it may not have a battery, so don't force it open, as mains is present.
However as recently posted an easy swap out - an electrically competent DIYer friend could manage.0 -
If it's similar to the DP72, it has a rechargeable battery-no indication as to whether that cell is user-replaceable though.
Maybe go for a more modern alternative such as a Honeywell CM907?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
It is similar to the one suggested and I have seen the updated grasslin on ebay. What should I do?0

I quite like the grasslin QE 2 it is a similar style to the old one we had. Do I need an electrician or a gas man?0

Given that choice an electrician, but perhaps you meant "heating engineer"?
If it is the programmer which is faulty TBH not a difficult job for either. I suggest you ask for a couple of quotes.
Your preferred programmer choice is fine and competitively priced. Others available here...

Thanks for that watching the compatible grasslin on ebay. 2 days to go and only £5.50 brand new one so very competitive.0

A heating engineer would know which replacement controller is most compatable with your existing one, as I posted, it may be just a case of a plug and play replacement.
If you can't get a neighbour to recommend a man, then maybe your council runs a trusted trader scheme, or maybe the CAB can help. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
