Pay with credit card ??

Options
I'm about to book a holiday and notice they charge 1.5% if you pay but credit card, no charge by debit card.
Can't wait to get a credit card giving cash back
I can pay by debit card but I have heard there are advantages to paying with credit card ie if the travel company goes bust (they are abta) also travel accident cover.
Any suggestions or comments please

I'd ignore the travel accident insurance as it is wholly insufficient for a trip. You need to take out separate travel insurance.

As for the credit card protecting you from bankruptcy - surely if the agent is ABTA that gives you cover anyway regardless of how you pay? My understanding is that ABTA will refund you if you have not yet traveled, and make sure you can get back home if you have already left.

Use a credit card when you can but 1.5% of a holiday can be a sizeable sum. I think I'd use a debit card, but it's your choice.
  • Maybe a bit late for you but a heads up for others:

The Co-op Bank Travel Credit Card can be used to book holidays etc with Co-op Travelcare Direct and no fee is charged if you pay with the card. You also get a min 5% discount as a member of the Co-op Travel Club, 7 months 0% on BTs and purchases plus 1% Travel Points on every BT and purchase which are redeemed as a credit on your statement as soon as you book anything with Co-op Travelcare.

I know this having got one last year, stoozing £8K and found to my astonishment this gave me £80 in Travel Points which was credited to my statement when I paid a deposit on a holiday with Travelcae Direct a few weeks ago!!!
    Ethical moneysaver

Even if you just pay the deposit using your credit card you are covered under the consumer credit act if something goes wrong for the full value of your holiday.

However, if you are booking through an ABTA/ATOL tour operator your risk is fairly low anyway.

So, pay a small deposit by credit card then a balance using debit card and you are covered.

Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

If I pay in full before 31 March I get a £40 discont so I think I'll pay by debit card. They are ATOL/ABTA operator
    Thanks for the help
