:(UPDATE:
So, for one reason or another, I never did get around to sending a letter out. As time ticked by and I never heard anything further, I forgot all about it. That is, until this morning when I received yet another letter addressed to me in my previous married name that I haven't used in a decade. It was sent from ScotCall Debt Collecting Services - this is a different company than before.
****************************************************
Dear Sir/ Madam,
Doorstep collection notice - Please read carefully
Your above outstanding debt has now been placed with Scotcall.
Failure to pay or contact us immediately will result in your account being passed to our Field representatives to arrange a doorstep call to make arrangements to repay this debt.
To avoid this we require the payment of the full outstanding balance or should your financial circumstances prevent this we require you to contact us with a realistic offer of repayment.
*****************************************************
Advice please. I am still loathe to make any contact as that is effectively me admitting that I am the person responsible for the debt despite the change in surname.

The odds are weighted against Scotcall turning up, but if they do then just tell then to naff off. They have no rights to do a thing. If they cause hassle, call the police.
The letter linked to previously does not not admit the debt. Quite the opposite.
Only you can make the call on when or if to send it, based on how bothered you are about letters etc.
At the moment you are just getting feeble please contact/pay us letters, which suggests to me that maybe they are either not sure they are writing to the right person or know that the debt is statute barred?
If you are reticent about writing just yet, then you could arguably hold off to see what they do next?
Or if you are sure the debt would be statute barred, then you could write and tell them to sod off now.
