Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
    you are on!

if i had known then what i know now!

a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!
  • All this talk of budget bikes makes me cringe, I can understand it for children who will eventually grow out of, loose interest in the bike.

But adults (I admit I ride daily so my perspective is going to be skued) if you intend to ride through the summer, to really enjoy the experience you need to spend more than £30 on a new bike, this will improve your safety, comfort and make you want to ride more.

I dont see how this bike is any less safe than any other bike. I would think how you ride it is much more important and if you wear the correct safety equipment.

Most people dont ride bikes very often, they buy them on an impulse. Cheap bikes like these are more likely to be sitting in a garage somewhere than doing any cross country downhill races :)

I bought one from Sterling House (the £50 one then £10 upgrade option) and it arrived yesterday. It looks good and rides well. I will be using it to commute a couple of miles to work every day. I am hopeful that it will run ok for me. I have no plans to take it off road. If anything goes wrong I will post and let you know.
I had a Raleigh Mountain bike previously that lasted 13 years so this one has a lot to live up to. I did take that one off road quite a bit when I was younger and it has done some miles.
I looked at it this way when I bought the new bike:
£70 is not a lot of money and if if I get 1 year out of it I'll be happy.
If I don't then I wont have lost out on much money and I will do my utmost to get it fixed or replaced.
Either way it's not an expensive lesson to be learned. £70 is what I will save in transport costs in 2 months, so hopefully the bike will have paid for itself by then.

Zag2me, I don't wish to flame you, but this is plain daft, it's like saying I don't see how one car is less safe than any other. I helped out a neighbour with his cheap bike from stirling and the most important element safety wise (brakes) were shocking. I went over the bike for him, but it really was quite bad quality. Like any vehicle the potential for serious damage is but a bad quality nut or broken cable away.

This I do agree with, but look on the other side, wouldn't you rather pay a little more for an aluminium frame at least, then at least its not rusting while you're not riding it! ;-)

Just thought I would let you all know I went and had a look at the £59.99 bike. I decided not to get this and got a £69.99 one instead. Apart from the bright Red colour that will blind most people it is a much better bike. The main differences are,

    Colour is Red not Blue
Brake handles are metal instead of plastic
Brake parts (I.e. the bits that push against the wheels) are also metal

Other than this its the same but the brakes are much better if metal.

Also not sure if its designed for a male or female but im a male and they didnt say ''you dont want that - its a girls bike''! so hopefully its ok.

Oh and it comes with a bell!!!!! :rotfl:

This sounds like the one I bought from Halfords, but they were selling it for £59.99, the same price as the blue one.
P.S. My clued up son says this style of bike is unisex so you don't need to worry about being laughed at when you go out cycling ;)
Use words that are soft and sweet in case you have to eat them.
  • I think that the days of a low cross bar for women are numbered, my girlfiend has just bought herself a new mtb, which looks like a mans but the geometry is shorter so there its not such a stretch for the handlebars. The brake levers are closer to the grips to make it easy to reach and has a female friendly saddle. I tried to ride it but bang my knees on the bars when turning :0 Most bikes really are unisex, just depends on your shape/size.
