Iv been looking for a new bike for a few days and was pretty much resigned to paying around 100 quid for a new one with suspension.
Came accross this deal at the halfords website
http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_details.asp?id=121
£59.99 inc vat
Add £10 for postage if you want it home delivered.
Seemed like a good deal to me so I ordered one.
Edit 1 : Found this awfull review of this bike here

Official insert: The bike comes boxed. Putting it together costs extra.

Its possible to get a bike for £30 from here:
http://www.sterlinghouse.co.uk/
EDIT:£50 for suspension...0 -
m8 i wouldnt worry to much about the reviews on that site if you look at the other reviews they are for bikes in excess of 2000 pound and they still moan about them so what chance has a 60 quid bike from halfords got......
i picked mine up today from my local store and took it out around our local valley and park lets just say the only colour it is now is muddy brown it was fine dont know if the suspension was good or bad as this is my first full suspension bike so got nothing to compare it to.
sterling house is ok but for the same price you can just take it back to lcal halfords if any probs not have to have to send it back and pay more postage.
so all in all 60 quid well spent in my view0 -
For the £30 bikes from sterling house, are they the scratched ones as mentioned on their website? Do I need to assemble the bike and is it difficult to assemble? Is it reliable to buy from them?0
-
I bought one about 6 years ago from Sterling house. Yes you do have to do a partial assembly i.e. put the wheels on etc. Some local bike shops will assemble for you for £10. Its starting to rust a bit now. I would say for the money its ok if you only ride occassionally. I have now upgraded
to a Raleigh Hybrid. Better for road riding. If you want a bike to use regularly I would pay a bit more though. January is the best month for bargains in bike shops. New models in and xmas overstock. Got a childs Saracens suspension bike for less than 1/2 price.

Not always true - most of the big bike companies start to roll out the next year's models from September onwards, so shops start to clear "old" stock from them on.
As for the bike, I expect it would be fine for pootling down a canal tow path or along a fire road. Start bouncing it down hills and trails and it won't last long. "Proper" full suspension starts at £1000 plus.0 -
what about the buy 1 get 1 free thing?
anyone think its a good deal?0 -
I got my bike in a megadrop from price-drop tv! £1 + P&P ended up at £17 for a dual suspension, z framed mountain bike with disc brakes i was pleased
had a harlem bike from them too and that was great quality for the price.
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
Thanks for the advice. I am actually looking for a bike for daily commuting from home to uni, and the occasional long distance ride, but mainly on road. I am not sure if this bike from sterlinghouse would be a good bike for thieves as I have to lock it outdoors. I can't really see from the picture if its wheels and saddle are quick release types? By the way, I am about 5 foot 8, not sure which size is appropriate. It says the bike is for 14 year olds and above, with inside leg of 29"-35". I am in Birmingham, and if there are any recommendations for second hand or cheap bike stores, please let me know! Thank you!0

Hi
I would be very careful about buying an apollo bike. The build quality tends to be very poor, and Halford's after-sales is virtually non-existant. When I worked as a bike mechanic, we received no end of Apollo bikes through our shop needing major work (i.e. total headset / gear system replacement) to the extent we eventually refused to accept them.It is not the bullet with your name on it, rather the one addressed "to whom it may concern" that should worry you!0
