How to get rid of mould?

I ahve quite a bad damp problem in my bedroom as it has 3 outside walls, and never really gets warm. The trouble is that I've just pulled the shelves and chest of drawers out from the wall to clean, and there's mould growing on them and the wall:eek:
Is there anything I can use on the mould to get rid of it? I have wiped it off as best as I can with stardrops, but I know I am only treating the symptoms and not the cause. But is there anything more I can do until we have the whole problem fixed?
Thanks,
Annie x

Keep any furniture away from the wall to allow air to circulate. This helps when there is nothing structuraly wrong.0

Hi, the problem is obviously condensation.
It's difficult trying to get rid of all the moisture from the air, caused by breathing, cooking, washing etc without a humidity controlled fan. In the olden days, when windows were less well fitted, draughts would help move the air about.
If the house is not very warm this adds to the problem, as cold air can not hold as much moisture as warm air.
Try to remove the moisture, then get rid of the mould growth. Anti fungicidal wash will kill it off. Now you can paint over it, but use stain block paint first.
Good luck !0 -
We have a similar problem in our flat and we were told to wash it off with a solution of thin bleach and water. It was also suggester to us that we get a de-humidifier, but we're looking into the cost of this as I've heard that they can be costly to run. I've also bought some little condensation traps from Homebase and they seem to be helping a bit - they're like little plastic boxes filled with silica which absorbs excess moisture from the air.0

Thanks. I am at the moment tryin to re-organise the furniture to keep it off the walls - a bit tricky as it's quote a small room LOL. I will try the bleach solution. and look into getting some sort of humidifier:)0

I got 2 of those from the £1 shop last week, so can be bought much cheaper. Can also be done with a bag of salt
Buy a large bag of salt
Pierce it a few times on one side (small holes)
Place in a tin with holes facing up.
Place in said room.
Or just a pot of salt on window ledge
Eucalyptus oils good at getting rid of mould and mildew marks. One day I might be more organised...........
