Damp!!! Mould!!!

Hi. We had a fully guaranteed damp proof course put in a year ago but we're still having major problems with the gable end. I had put some books on the shelves against the wall and when cleaning recentley I moved them only to find huge patches of mould! I have been advised by the damp proof company that the walls are now free from rising damp and they suggested it could be caused by driving rain or condensation. They have told us to put air vents in and see if it solves the problem. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts/advice to give? Thanks Natalie:eek:

Is that house old? Possible water penetration through bricks and mortar. It could possible be condensation too. A warm house would retain more water vapour than a cold house, cold spots attract water vapour which condense on outside walls/windows and corners0

It could well be penetrating rain,we live in a house built 1896,and we had a damp coures put in,but we are still going to have to have the whole house repointed.
The morter is decaying and although it looks the same in all places we had to have urgent work done on certain places till the full pointing to be done in the summer can be done.
When we took off wallpaper we found that walls in some corner areas upstairs had mould on them. The repointing on those ares seem to have cured it.Also if the room is an upstairs one it could be the roof or guttereing leaking.0 -
If it is mould on the wallpaper rather than the wall paper peeling off it is probably cause by condensation. Try using a dehumidifier (sp?)...0

Hi. Thanks for replies. In answer to the questions, yes the house is old, it was built in 1896 too, no wallpaper on walls, we dont have any problems with the front or back of the house just the gable end which is north facing, the house is painted.0
