A friend has leant us a DVD, not commercial, and we would like to make a copy. What is the easiest way of doing this with my Macbook? I use VLC to watch DVDs.

Without getting software you can use the Disk Utility to do it (Applications -> Utilities).
Never needed to do it with my mac so dont know if there is a direct way of doing it but you can certainly use DU to make a image of the disk, then put a blank disk in and use DU to burn the image to the DVD-r0 -
Thanks for that. After looking I found that Toast titanium has a DVD copying mode, very simple to use and worked first time, Result!0

You can burn the DVD to the other formats first.
Then you can use a DVD Ripper for Mac to deal with that.
This is the one My friends recommend to me.0 -
If you wanna just copy the main part of the film to your macbook to watch and then delete, without holding onto the disc for weeks on end, i use Handbrake. it's free to download, and once you know how to use it, it's quite straight forward...0
